Parish

The parish of Santa Maria de Ermelo was born at the end of the 16th century, with the closure of the Monastery of Ermelo, on the territory of the Archdiocese of Braga. It currently has two places, the Church and Vilarinho do Souto, and belongs, since November 3, 1977, to the diocese of Viana do Castelo. The history of this parish is largely built around devotion to St Benedict. It has as patron saint Santa Maria de Ermelo.
